Sept 8th Torah Fund Dinner

It's Torah Fund Time

What is Torah Fund? I know that I have asked that question many times myself. At first I thought this was a fund to raise money for the purposes of buying and caring for Torahs. O.K. that is what happens when you let my mind run wild without control.

But after a little more conversation (with those who know) about Torah Fund and what it does I was very excited to find out that it is our commitment to the preservation of Conservative Judaism. Through our generous financial support , we help maintain the Jewish Theological Seminary, the Ziegler School at the University of Judaism, Camp Ramah and other Conservative Movement institutions (including Seminario Rabinico Latrinoamericano in Buenos Aries, I just learned about that one last night) which provide for the education of Rabbis, Cantors, teacher, young people and lay leaders who represent the future of our Jewish community.

One of the ways that we support Torah Fund is by donating (any amount will be appreciated) $180 or more and receiving this years Torah Fund Pin . These pins will be handed out on Friday September 8th at the Torah Fund Shabbat Dinner. Keep an eye on your mailbox for the Torah Fund Flyer and Donation card. When you receive it, fill it, out send it back and wear your pin proudly, knowing that you have done your part to help Conservative Judaism in the next generation.

Our First Event August 16, 2006

Ice Cream and Information

An evening of Fun, Food and Information

Sisterhood's first event was an Ice Cream Social with four skits to get us thinking.

The first skit was between a Professional Business women and her mother a Professional volunteer. What could sisterhood do to interest her into participating?
t
Maybe we need to have some meetings in smaller groups that focus on the specific needs of some of our sub groups like Zahava which is for Mothers younger women with young children. Meeting could be scheduled when their children are in ECE.

Skit number two had to do with a woman who was involved with Sisterhood and her friend who just paid her dues and participated in other organiztions other than Sisterhood. We are interested in programming that would be current and interesting.
t
Women's interests are changing and Sisterhood is ready to adapt to the new interests that more women are showing. We need to create new and different programming like Belly Dancing and Martinis which is scheduled for Sept. 6th along with some Programs that bring a woman's perspective to Conservative Judaism and opportunities to learn about and discuss current world events.
t
t
The third skit had to do with the challenge of being warm and welcoming. A new Sisterhood member, a Jew by choice was hurt and felt shunned by all the members of Sisterhood who stayed in their own little click, the comfort zone of women who c xggggg.. x xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx joined sisterhood years ago.
t
When you see a new face greet them go outside of your comfort zone to make a new friend. We are called "Sisterhood", so treat z \ everyone as your sister with no sibling rivalry.
t
t
The last skit was about enticing those women who are not yet members, and making everyone aware of the type of skills that you gain in sisterhood. The are so many misconceptions that Sisterhood is nothing more cccxxxxxxxxxxxxxccc vz than the dairy kitchen.
t
We have some pretty amazing women here and we are looking for more. The skills you polish at Sisterhood can take you into the most impressive boardroom in the world. Additionally, we are interested in you showing us what you do best. We are more than just women who work in the kitchen (although working in the kitchen is admirable work, and can be extremely fun and rewarding). We need to do a better job of promoting ourselves and our activities.t
t
We need to make it known that we support:
Our Synagogue with Oneg Shabbat and Shabbat Kiddush
The ECE ~ The Religous School ~ USY ~ Rabbinical Students
and many other activities.
t
t
Ladies wear your Torah Fund Pins and T-Shirts proudly and make sure that you invite
one of your sisters to find out more about what we can do for them, and what they can do for Sisterhood.
t
Sisterhood is the Preservation of Conservative Judaism in our Modern Times.
t
We want to know what we can do to help you make it YOUR SISTERHOOD
please leave a message and let us know what you think
