Israel In Crisis: What Can You Do

Israel In Crisis
Jewish Federation's Action Plan

The Jewish Federation and the Jewish community of Greater Los Angeles stand with Israel during this difficult and dangerous time. We pray for the safety and security of the residents of Israel. Today over 200,000 men, women and children are in bomb shelters to protect themselves against the barrage of missiles on the Northern and Southern parts of the country. Nearly 100 people have been injured and a small number of civilians killed.

On Thursday, the Federation convened a broad based group of community organizations and synagogues to develop an action plan. We were addressed by Ehud Danoch, Israel's Consul General.

Two Things You Can Do To Help

We are organizing a major community rally tentatively scheduled on Sunday, July 23, at 4:00pm in front of the Goldsmith Center, 6505 Wilshire Blvd. (subject to approval by the city of Los Angeles). We are mobilizing across the community to assure attendance by the Jewish community and our friends in the general community. Please tell your friends to join us to express solidarity with Israel at a dangerous moment.

The Jewish Federation is concerned for the safety and wellbeing of the children in these impacted areas. For that reason, our Federation has advanced $100,000 to the United Jewish Communities as part of a national initiative to raise $1 million per week to send Israeli children in the communities under attack to summer camp in safer areas. This national initiative by Jewish federations throughout North America is meant to ensure that safety and some semblance of normalcy is provided to these children at a dangerous moment.

The Los Angeles Federation has created an Israel in Crisis Fund. Checks can be made out to "Jewish Federation, Israel in Crisis." The monies will be utilized to assist over 2500 children at risk attend summer camp. One hundred percent of all contributions to this fund will be immediately sent to Israel without any overhead.

We are working with our staff and beneficiary agencies on the ground in Israel to monitor the situation and assess the needs on a daily basis. We will continue to provide emergency support above and beyond our regular and ongoing support of the people of Israel.

How Do I Donate to the fund?

Donations to the Jews in Crisis Fund can be made by calling (323) 761-8207

Checks should be made payable to United Jewish Fund-Crisis Fund and mailed to:

6505 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1000, Los Angeles, CA 90048

How Can I Get to the Rally?

Check out this website for the Federation Plans http://www.jewishla.org/
